About GMBI

At GMBI, we believe in battery-to-battery recovery. By extracting critical minerals and returning them to the supply chain, we support carbon neutrality goals and reduce reliance on virgin materials. Our mission aligns with global efforts to build a resilient, sustainable EV future.

Our Business
Model

Green Metals Battery Innovations, LLC (GMBI) operates at the center of the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery value chain – serving as a vital industrial recycling and materials-recovery platform for EV batteries and their components. Our core business model focuses on receiving EV battery scrap, then utilizing our advanced pre-processing system to recover all reusable critical minerals for eventual refinement into the raw materials needed for battery production.

Strategic Integration

With headquarters in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, GMBI is strategically located to offer scalable, automotive-grade battery pre-processing services to the region’s battery and automotive manufacturers. Founded by Toyota Tsusho America (TAI)—a member of the Toyota Tsusho Group and an industrial trading company with a 65-year history of operations in North America—GMBI’s business relationships and proximity to the battery manufacturing ecosystem ensures the company has direct access to scrap – further ensuring its ability to lead the way in the clean energy and advanced manufacturing supply chain.

Circular Economy & Sustainability

GMBI is dedicated to developing a truly “closed-loop” supply chain. By facilitating battery-to-battery recovery of critical metals, GMBI supports the circular economy and aligns with global carbon neutrality goals.

Services

Battery Pre-Processing & Material Recovery

GMBI provides localized, scalable capacity for automotive-grade recycling. Our facility is designed to handle the intake of EV battery scrap, processing them to return critical minerals to the supply chain.

Our Process

Our operations utilize advanced technology to ensure efficient resource circulation:

Dismantling: Safe breakdown of battery packs and modules.

Shredding & Sorting: Mechanical processing to separate components.

Recovery of Black Mass—a concentrate containing critical minerals such as Nickel (Ni), Manganese (MN), Cobalt (Co), and Lithium (Li).
